Backpacker's Bistro was founded in 2016 by Melissa Lynn Lieser with a simple philosophy: Provide a gourmet, nutritious, and easy alternative to traditional backpacking food.
Most of us can agree that after a long day on the trail, there is nothing better than a good meal. Unfortunately, traditional backpacking food options can be high in sodium and low on taste. After years of lowering our food expectations while on the trail, we began making our own meals that not only provided better nutritional value for the physical toll our bodies take on the trail, but also bring a satisfying end to a long day. Just because we are in the backwoods doesn’t mean we need to compromise on taste!
Melissa Lynn, founder of Backpacker's Bistro, has been a life-long hiker and backpacker, having traveled and lived in many places throughout the world. While living in Brooklyn, NYC, she trained at the prestigious French Culinary Institute, and was awarded the Top Chef award in 2008.
After moving to the Pacific Northwest, and going on countless camping trips, she saw a need for healthier cuisine while outdoors. She subsequently combined her passions for backpacking and food to create Backpacker's Bistro in 2016.
Melissa continually takes great pride in maintaining quality products, using ingredients that are fresh, healthy and wholesome. She believes in supporting local and sustainable sources wherever possible.
Melissa lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and two children, and can often be found chopping vegetables or out hiking the trails near her home.
